MARTIN ŠVAJDA - Cello
completed his studies at the Janáček Academy of Music in Brno (1986-1991), attending cello classes with Doc. Jan Hališka. He gained the Czech Music Fund Prize for the best interpretation of a composition from the 20th century (1987), made his first recordings for radio (1988), had his festival debut in Spain (1989 Cuitadella de Menorca, Salou), and worked with the Brno State Philharmonic.
He began his professional career as a member of the
Brno String Quartet.
He performed over 300 concerts with them between 1990 and 2005, among others at international music festivals in Austria, France, Spain, Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic and a host of recordings for Czech Radio, ORF, firm EDIT or Austian ARICORD.
On the concert stage he has performed with pianists – prof. Zdeněk Hnát, Francoise Killian (France), prof. Franz-Friedrich Eichberger (Germany), prof. Erika Frieser (Austria); flautists - Vítězslav Drápal, Wolfgang Schultz (Austria), Clara Novak (France); cellist – Alexander Hülshoff (Germany); clarinettists – Jiří Hlaváč and Vlastimil Mareš (Czech); guitarists – prof. Leo Witoszinsky (Austria), Alvaro Pierri (Uruguay), Maria Escarpa (Spain); conductors – Miloš Alexandr Machek, Jan Štych, Stanislav Macura, František Vajnar, Debashish Chaudhuri (India) and many others.
Since 1993 he has been cello soloist with the Bohuslav Martinů Chamber Ochestra and regularly performs in the chamber duo with pianist Pavel Kratochvíl with whom he has recorded works by Robert Schumann, Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky on CD.
In the concert season 2002-2003 he established and successfully introduced a new ensemble – the piano Krommer trio – to the audience.
As solist and chamber musician, Martin Švajda has achieved a wide range of concert appearances, radio and CD recordings and foreign tours (France, Holland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA).
From the year 2009, except a number of recitals in the Czech Republic, there are worth mentioning attendance at summer International Music Festivals in Germany and Austria or Concert H minor op.104 of Antonín Dvořák with Zlín Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic at the opening concert of „JANÁČEK A LUHAČOVICE“ Festival with presence of Mrs Livia Klausová – the first lady of the Czech Republic and a patron of the festival.
